LLPIN (Limited Liability Partnership Identification Number) is the unique seven-character alphanumeric code that the Registrar of Companies (ROC) allots to every LLP at the moment of registration. The number is printed on the Certificate of Incorporation and stays fixed for the life of the LLP, unchanged by name changes, a shift of registered office, or the addition or exit of partners.
Legal basis
The LLP itself is created under the Limited Liability Partnership Act, 2008, read with the LLP Rules, 2009. Incorporation is filed through Form FiLLiP (Form for Incorporation of Limited Liability Partnership) on the MCA21 V3 portal; once the ROC approves it, the system generates the LLPIN automatically and issues the Certificate of Incorporation.
Format
The LLPIN is a seven-character alphanumeric string kept in a consistent format across every state, sector, and size of LLP. It should not be confused with related MCA identifiers: the CIN (21 characters) belongs to companies, while the DPIN identifies an individual designated partner rather than the firm.
Where it is used
- Quoting the entity on statutory MCA filings such as Form 8 (Statement of Account and Solvency) and Form 11 (Annual Return).
- Opening the LLP's bank account, executing contracts, and any correspondence with the ROC.
- Public verification through the MCA "Find LLPIN" service and master-data lookups by lenders, clients, and regulators.
