What is a CIN & Why It Matters

A Corporate Identification Number (CIN) is a unique 21-character alphanumeric code assigned by the Registrar of Companies (ROC) to every company incorporated in India under the Companies Act. It appears on the certificate of incorporation and must be quoted on official company documents such as invoices, letterheads, notices, and annual filings.

Did You Know?

  • Public Information: CIN details are part of the public MCA register — anyone can look up a company's CIN and registration details.
  • Mandatory Disclosure: Under Section 12 of the Companies Act, 2013, companies must print their CIN on all official publications and correspondence.
  • Not for LLPs: Limited Liability Partnerships get an LLPIN and foreign companies an FCRN instead of a CIN — our search covers all three.

Contract Due Diligence

Match the CIN on an agreement against the legal entity actually signing it.
